Il Blues è un genere musicale che affonda le proprie radici tra i canti delle comunità di schiavi afroamericani nelle piantagioni degli stati Stati Uniti d'America. Si tratta di una forma musicale vocale e strumentale caratterizzata da una struttura di dodici battute e dall'uso delle cosiddette blue note. Inizialmente bollata come musica degli schiavi, il blues è stato a lungo negato ai bianchi. Questo genere ha, nel corso degli anni, contribuito alla nascita di una serie di nuovi generi musicali come il jazz, il rhythm and blues ed il rock.
